A rare treat- an heirloom Turban variety coming from the continent of Europe, most specifically the Navarre region of Euskara- the Basque country, where a pre Indo European language still survives. The Basque are great explorers who plied the Atlantic and made some of the earliest explorations of North America in search of cod. Who knows how and when this Turban got brought home in their trading.
I watched Anthony Bourdain's Parts Unknown as he was in Basque country and my mouth watered at their elemental cuisine and utter respect for great ingredients prepared simply. I'd like to think this garlic would be welcome on a Basque grill.
